Laser Hair Removal: What Can I Expect?

Imagine not having to shave, wax, or pluck as part of your daily routine ever again.

Laser hair removal is a non-invasive medical procedure that uses concentrated beams of light to remove unwanted hair in specific target areas. “Laser” is a catch-all phrase, as broadband light may also be used for hair removal. BBL is not a laser, but works similarly.

This treatment usually requires a series of anywhere between 6 and 8 BBL sessions depending on location and thickness of hair. The intervals in-between sessions also vary based on the growth rate for that particular area. Hair must be in the Anagen or Growth Phase in order to effectively treat that hair follicle. Most sessions will be between 12 and 16 weeks apart.

During the procedure, the doctor or nurse may apply a topical anesthetic to your skin to reduce any discomfort as well as provide you with special goggles to protect your eyes during treatment. When activated, the light passes through your skin to the hair follicle and damages it. This will inhibit further hair growth of that follicle for an extended period of time. While some people feel warmth or slight discomfort, most just notice the cooling effect from the gel used to protect your skin.

The procedure is non-intrusive, and the downtime is very limited following the procedure. You may experience a small bit of redness or swelling but you should be back to normal by the following day.

Overall, this procedure is a great option for people with unwanted hair growth. Though the hair may come back, you can control the growth with regular maintenance treatments of the area, and with enough treatments, the results may be permanent. Annapolis Plastic Surgery offers BBL hair removal for a reduction in unwanted hair. Over the course of six to eight sessions with us, you will see a significant reduction in the volume, texture, and growth of unwanted hair.
